Coming Home to Myself: A Practical Beginning to Spiritual Growth

Many years back, when I first heard of ‘Spiritual’, people would ask if I had any spiritual beliefs. I always tied this up with religion. Recently, I walked out of the darkness of my life, and this word came to my mind again. I am using the help from ChatGPT to ask what exactly ‘Spiritual Growth’ means.

Spiritual Growth is not referring to religious alignment, but in a broader and practical sense, to develop a deeper relationship with yourself, life, and meaning beyond achievements, roles, or external validation.

Spiritual Growth = Inner Alignment

Long story short, it is less about becoming someone New and more about returning to yourself.

Key Dimensions of Spiritual Growth

1. Self-Awareness
This awareness has hit me especially during the moments of quiet, routine, and solitude. Thanks to Covid time, which made me realise it.

What drains my energy vs what restores it – this is when surrounded with people who do not appreciate what they already have, which drains me, and by talking and meeting people, my energy is restored.

2. Emotional Honesty
This is not a weakness, but it reflects your maturity.

I used to escape when certain emotions hit me, and in a way that I would run away from them. However, I think I need to sit with comfort instead of escaping.

3. Meaning Beyond Productivity
With my strong Marketing and Strategic background, my life has likely been structured around output and performance, but spiritual growth asks different questions. You need to be able to feel meaningful, even if it is not impressive to you. A lot of the time, I am someone who is really based on impression, especially on the first impression.

4. Letting Go of Old Narratives
Sometimes growth looks like doing less, not more.
Releasing identities that no longer fit, for instance, it’s time to let others take care of you instead of you being the caretaker, since I am the eldest sister not only in my family but around most friends.

5. Connection
This learning on how to be alone without feeling lonely. I must say, yes, I am alone, but I am never lonely. Spiritual growth is all about your connection to YOURself.

Returning to Myself 🤞

In the year 2026, I am not chasing answers or forcing change. I am choosing to slow down, to listen more closely, and to stay present with what arises. Spiritual growth to me is begins with honesty, meeting myself where I am, without judgement, and trusting that clarity will come in ot own time.
