The Good, the Missed, and the Future: My Remote Work Story

I’ve been working remotely since 2021, a shift that started when my previous company had to close its doors after navigating the challenges of the MCO (Movement Control Order). While remote work became a new norm for many during that time, my situation was unique—working remotely was explicitly part of my employment contract. One unexpected perk? I get to enjoy holidays that fall under both Selangor and Kuala Lumpur!

I’ve always believed there are two sides to every story, and I try to focus on the positive whenever possible.

Looking back on the past three years of remote work, I feel a mix of emotions:

Things I Miss:

  • The satisfying beep of my access tag when entering the office.
  • Company events and get-togethers that brought everyone closer.
  • The energy of chatting with co-workers and seeing their real faces.
  • The magic of in-person conversations—virtual meetings just don’t compare.

Things I Treasure:

  • Flexible time to better balance work and life.
  • No more stressful commutes or traffic jams—such a relief!
  • Feeling more productive in the comfort of my own space.
  • Learning to keep myself entertained and focused during downtime.

Remote work has been a journey of growth and adaptation. While I cherish its benefits, I’ll always have a soft spot for the little joys of office life. For now, though, there’s no turning back to “normal mode.”
