Have you asked the right question?
Have you came across some questions where you felt it is not right and disrespectful?
After a conversation with my friend to clarify if I am being over react on this and she told me that I was over react on it. Maybe, I did. The story goes like this…
Over a lunch conversation with my colleagues, and one of the guy colleague has posted a question to my other girl colleague, asking if she is lesbian? I was paused for a while and I realized that my female colleague acted bit uneasy. Therefore, I politely asked back the guy colleague who posted the question. Why are you asking her this question? Do you see something that I do not see? It was ridiculous to know that it was just a question and he treated this question as “How are you?’ to just break the ice.
For me, he is disrespect to this female colleague. This is a very personal and sensitive question to ask someone especially you are not close to the person. It is never breaking the ice question. It is nothing about being conservative or being an open minded person. I felt this guy has no sensibility at all. Afterall, I should just let it go like my friend told me. If he is asking me the question, then I shall told him all this insensibility.
