What Is Social Dilemma?
Also known as “A Collective Action Problem” on how the Internet’s most popular products work on a basic business model of tracking users’ behavior in order to sell targeted ads and induce addiction in a vicious cycle.
Recently, I watched a movie from Netflix : The Social Dilemma. I was not very surprised but slightly shocked on how the business model works. We all are being manipulated by Social Media where to feed us the contents that we may want to see. In other words, we are having a spy next to each and everyone of us on 24/7. How scary is it?

Google, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, Reddit, just to name few. All these Social Media platforms are the most common that we all are connected with. Some are super addicted and live the world inside the screen. With so many social problems that we are now facing, no deny that this Social Dilemma has much influence to our life now. We may also heard some news about suicide cases if someone is attacked by the netizen.
Social Media Platforms is not a tool. Tristan Harris, former design ethicist at Google and co-founder of the Center for Humane Technology, warns that βif something is not a tool, itβs demanding things from you. Itβs seducing you, itβs manipulating you. It wants things from you.β
No wonder I do not receiving news as much as others. Simply because I hardly now on Social Media beside actively on Instagram. I also rarely Like or Share News.
Our life may get tougher without Technology. However, I always do believe in “Balance” on just each expect in life. Be moderate. Be yourself. Life is beautiful if you find your way to see this world. Don’t blindly go for things by majority, ask your inner self.
